Cape Coral house fires under investigation

By Staff | Oct 14, 2009

MICHAEL PISTELLA A pair of blazes at 4825 Tarpon Court early Tuesday morning, one in a pile of trash by the side of the road and one in the carport, are under investigation.

The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating two fires that occurred at 4825 Tarpon Court in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to Cape Coral spokesperson Connie Barron, a call came in to 911 dispatch at 2:28 a.m. about a structure fire.

Fire crews arrived on scene not long after the call came in, finding a carport on fire. The fire subsequently spread to a vehicle, a Ford Escort, parked inside the carport.

Both the vehicle and the carport received extensive damages before the blaze was extinguished.

Barron said the fire took about 10 minutes to get under control.

Fire crews were also called to the same location several hours prior to extinguish another, smaller fire in front of the building where the carport was located.

Barron said a mattress had caught fire, though no other information was available Tuesday.

Early damage estimates to the carport and vehicle fires total about $32,000, according to Barron.

It is not known if arson was involved. The situation is under investigation.
