Lehigh Senior High School Center for the Arts AVID students were treated to a presentation by Jeanne Nealon, founder of the non-profit “Laces for Love.” Nealon is a former teacher whose program now gives

more than 19,000 pairs of shoes away to kids in need in Lee and Collier counties each year, said Jeff Spirio, LSHS principal. Nealon’s message to the Lehigh Senior AVID students was to:

Seeing a need (however big or small) and forming a plan to address it

The importance of community service

Setting a goal to get to college regardless of circumstances.

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID is a class students take while they are enrolled in Advanced Placement level

courses, Spirio said.
