Food for Thought

Enjoy pizza, share your thoughts about specific art pieces and create your own masterpiece with art supplies provided! Celebrate historical works of art through replicas from the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. We will be discussing the works “Painting the Portrait of Mah-to-toh-pa,” by George Catlin (1796-1872) and Black Hawk’s (c. 1832-1890) “Sans Arc Lakota” Ledger Book. Explore the lives of American Indians and Frontier cultures through these works.

To see the replicas in person and write down your thoughts in preparation for the program, please see the East County Regional Library’s Young Adult Area. The program content is provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities and presented by Cameo Hinman. Art supplies are provided by the Friends of the East County Regional Library. For grades 612. Registration required.
