New Lehigh Elementary School will hold dedication on Nov. 23

By Staff | Nov 10, 2009

A dedication ceremony marking the opening of the new Lehigh Elementary School off of Richmond Ave. at 200 Schoolside Court will be held at 9:45 a.m., Monday, Nov. 23.

Lee County school board members, the superintendent of schools, students, parents, current and former staff, the Lehigh Chamber of Commerce, Lehigh Elementary business partners and community members will be at the ceremony.

Lehigh Elementary School is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with a newly renovated facility. Being the first school in Lehigh Acres, the legacy of learning at the school runs deep. Lehigh Elementary has existed in several forms over the years from modest beginnings as “Lehigh Neighborhood School” housed in model homes to the current building. The school currently educates approximately 950 students and has proudly served several generations of Lehigh Acres residents, according to Joe Donzelli, a spokesman with the school system.

The school strives to meet the needs of its students and the community, he said.

As always, Lehigh Elementary works hard to maintain the goal of continued academic success while focusing on each student’s individual needs, Donzelli said. The school also focuses on increasing family involvement while maintaining a strong tie to the community.

In 1959, Lehigh Elementary was a unique and much needed addition to the Lehigh community and was welcomed with open arms.

Now, in 2009 in a newly renovated facility, Lehigh Elementary continues and will continue to serve the students, parents and community of Lehigh Acres for many years to come, he said.
