RICHARDSON ATTENDS ALL STATE WOMEN’S CHOIR
Lehigh Senior High School Center for the Arts vocal student, Shonda Richardson, was selected to the All State SSAA 2010 Women’s Choir. She is under the direction of the Choral Director, Willie Sparrow.
LIGHTNING BAND WINS AWARDS
Lehigh Senior High School Center for the Arts Golden Lightning Band performed in the Palmetto Ridge High School for the 6th annual Marching Band Invitational.
The Lightning Band received awards for Best General Effect, Best Visual Effect, Best Percussion, Best Auxiliary and 1st Place in the Bronze Division.
Lehigh’s band is lead by Director Jay Parales.
BOOTH HONORED AT DAYTONA CONFERENCE
Lehigh Senior High School Center for the Arts Dance Director Melissa Booth was recently selected as Treasurer of the Florida Dance Education Organization.
Booth officially accepted this position at the FDEO conference recently at Daytona Beach. She will hold the office of treasurer until 2011. Booth has been teaching at Lehigh Senior High School since 2006.
PUBLIC INVITED TO TEXTBOOK SHOWCASE ON NOV. 17
A textbook publishers’ showcase will be held by the National Publishers of mathematics textbooks and supporting materials for Lee county public school administrators , parents and members of the community.
It is scheduled at Dunbar High Shool at 3800 E. Edison Ave., Fort Myers, said Sharon Vandeventer, mathematics coordinator.
It is scheduled for Nov. 17 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
National publishers will display their textbooks and resources as part of the 2009 – 2010 Mathematics Textbook Adoption process.
As required by the State of Florida’s Textbook Adoption Cycle, Lee County Public Schools will be selecting new K12 mathematics textbooks this year.
The Publishers’ Showcase provides teachers, administrators, and the community an opportunity to preview mathematics textbooks submitted for state approval and to pose questions regarding these resources to publishers’ representatives.

EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT EDUCATION CONFERENCE SET
The Lee County Public Schools’ Exceptional Student Education Advisory Committee is inviting teachers, community stakeholders and parents of children receiving Special Education and/or Gifted Services to an informative and fun conference.
The event, Striving for Success:
Strategies for Students, will provide the opportunity for parents and professionals to network with others and learn about a variety of topics including teaching social skills, reading, transitions, self-determination, conflict resolution, Positive Behavioral Supports, and gifted education. Childcare will be provided for those attending.
The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, November 14 at South Fort Myers High School, 14020 Plantation Road, Fort Myers.
A panel presentation by parent leaders will assist families in ways to persevere in the face of the many challenges that can come with raising a child with special needs. This conference embodies the spirit of the Advisory Committee through collaboration, commitment, and celebration of
all kinds of learners.
A special presentation of “Sibshops” will be presented by Diana Bledsoe, a school psychologist. She will target the unique needs and concerns of
typically developing siblings of children with special needs through activities and small group sharing.
