The Lee County Sheriff’s Office today said investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a reported purse snatching.

On Friday, November 6, at around 12:32 p.m., deputies responded to the Office Depot in the Page Field Commons Shopping Center, located at 4971 Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers, regarding a purse snatching.

Upon arrival, deputies met with the victim, who told them she was walking in the parking lot when she was approached by an unknown white male in a white SUV. The victim said the white male driver stopped the vehicle in front of her, exited the vehicle, and then forcibly took her purse. He then got back into the vehicle and fled the area, investigators said.

Detectives with the Robbery Unit assumed the investigation and recovered a video of the suspect’s vehicle as well as video of the suspect as he left a Target store after using the victim’s credit card. The suspect used the credit card twice within an hour of the purse snatching, investigators said. It was used at the Target store in the Forum Shopping Center located at Colonial and I-75, near Lehigh Acres, and at the Walgreen’s store at 10672 Colonial Blvd.

The suspect who used the credit card can be identified as the white male, balding, wearing a green shirt, beige shorts, and carrying two boxes of Pampers diapers.

Anyone who can help identify this individual is asked to call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at (239) 477-1000, or the Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800- 780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for up to $1,000 in cash rewards.
