Developer Richard Miller dies

Richard Miller
Richard Miller, developer of Pointe Estero on Fort Myers Beach, passed away Oct. 23, 2009 after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Minneapolis, Minn. in 1941, he married at a very young age to Tanya Keller. He built their first home as a teenager. His fascination with building, engineering and architecture parlayed into the development of his company, Richard Miller Homes, building many homes and neighborhood developments in and around the Minneapolis area.
After receiving the Minnesota Reggie Award, an “Oscar” for home building, he then move on to starting Pointe Santo Development. A brilliant man and master visionary, he developed Pointe Santo de Sanibel, a 141-unit condominium complex on Sanibel Island followed by Pointe Estero, a high-rise condominium complex on Fort Myers Beach. He was also a previous owner of the Sundial Beach and Gulf Resort.
An avid sailor, Miller loved being by and on the water. He spent much time exploring the earth, traveling to many exotic places, as he loved to continually learn and challenge himself.
He is survived by his children Shellene McCagg (formerly of Sanibel), of Denver, Colo. and Sara Bauer of Minneapolis and five grandchildren.
