December Programs at East County Regional Library

Next month’s roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

ADULTS

Book Discussion: Philip Roth’s “Indignation”

3:30 p.m. Monday, December 7

Read “Indignation” by Philip Roth and discuss it with fellow community members. The East County Book Discussion Group is open to all.

Calendar Girls Musical Extravaganza!

7 p.m. Monday, December 7

The Calendar Girls are a non-profit dance team made up of women age 50 and older who love to dance! Come and enjoy this holiday program as they

perform dances to songs of old and new with a few added surprises – they may even sing for you!

PC Basics

3 p.m. Wednesday, December 9

If you think a mouse is something a cat chases, then this program is for you! Learn the basics of Windows, program control icons, storage organization, email and surfing the web. Registration is required.

Chess Anyone?

7 p.m. Tuesday, December 15

Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Everyone is welcome. Bring a personal chess set, if preferred. Sponsored by the Friends of the East County Regional Library. Registration is required.

FAMILY

Family Storytime

6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, December 1, 8, 15

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes.

Toddler Storytime

10 a.m. Wednesdays, December 2, 9, 16

10 a.m. Thursdays, December 3, 10, 17

Children 2 years old and their caregivers participate in song, fingerplays and short stories. The success of this age group depends on adult participation and encouragement. Toddler storytime lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Baby-Parent Rhyme Time

10 a.m. Saturday, December 5

Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants.

KIDS

Preschool Storytime

10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, December 2, 9, 16

10:30 a.m. Thursdays, December 3, 10, 17

Preschoolers (ages 3 to 5) attend this storytime independently while parents or caregivers wait nearby in the library building. This storytime includes activities that require more participation and a longer attention span. Each preschool storytime lasts about 30 minutes.

Kids Read Down Fines

4:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 16

Do you have library fines? Take care of them by reading! Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading during the allotted time in the designated area of the library. For ages 18 and younger.

Holiday Stories and Crafts

2 p.m. Saturday, December 19

Hear stories about the season and make decorations or greeting cards while listening to holiday music.

TEENS

East County Anime Club

4:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 1

Join a group of teens with an interest in anime, manga and other aspects of Japanese culture. Snacks provided by the Friends of the East County Regional Library. Registration is required.

Food for Thought

4:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 8

Enjoy snacks, share your thoughts about specific art pieces and create your own masterpiece with art supplies provided! Celebrate historical works of art through replicas from the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. To see the replicas of specific art pieces in person and write down your thoughts in preparation for the program, please see the East County Regional Library’s Young Adult Area. The program content is provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities and presented by Cameo Hinman. Art supplies are provided by the Friends of the East County Regional Library. For grades 6 – 12. Registration is required.
