A passenger in a vehicle involved in a late-night car accident Tuesday on State Road 78 was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital’s trauma center.
Cape Coral resident Estrella Montalvo was taken to the hospital in Fort Myers with unspecified injuries, along with the driver Hernando Montalvo, 79, who was taken to the hospital by a relative.
According to Pat Dolce, spokesperson for the Lee Memorial Health System, Estrella Montalvo was listed in fair condition Wednesday afternoon.
The accident occurred at 10:29 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of State Road 78 and Hancock Bridge Parkway.
According to Cape police reports, Hernando Montalvo, driving a white 2004 Toyota, was traveling west on Pine Island Road, approaching the intersection of Hancock Bridge Parkway.
He reportedly turned left and was struck by a white 2005 Honda driven by Cape resident Kimberly Franklin, 26, who was going the opposite direction on State Road 78.
According to a report from the Cape Coral Police Department, Franking tried to break and swerved to avoid colliding with Montalvo, but could not stop. Her car hit Montalvo’s Toyota on the passenger side, injuring Estrella Montalvo.
Franklin declined medical attention Tuesday night, according to the CCPD.
No charges have been filed against either driver at this time, the police report states.
