Lottery officials announce new ITVMNS machines

By Staff | Dec 15, 2009

The Florida Lottery announced today that all of the 1,000 Instant Ticket Vending Machines (ITVMS), that began rolling out late this summer across the state, are now in place! Just in time for the holidays, all ITVMs are fully stocked and now include the Florida Lottery’s featured line of holiday Scratch-Off games: $250,000 TREASURE TREE, HOLIDAY TRIPLER, MERRY MILLIONAIRE, STOCKING STUFFER and HOLIDAY CASH!

The Lottery’s expansive portfolio of games make great holiday gifts that fit every budget; and, this season, ITVMs will make buying for that special Lottery player in your life easier than ever before, Lottery officials say.

“While our ITVMs are designed to make shopping for Scratch-Off tickets as convenient as possible, we would like to encourage parents to supervise their underage kids during this busy holiday season,” said Doug Pitts, director of security for the Florida Lottery. “While it may seem harmless to hand your child a $5 bill for them to buy a ticket for you; it is important to remember that, like with all other lottery products, ITVM ticket purchasers must also be 18 years of age or older.”

ITVMs are strategically placed in the line of sight of Florida Lottery retailers within each retail location, most of them near Customer Service counters. Lottery retailers have been instructed to monitor the ITVMs during business hours, and each retailer has the ability to turn off the machine with a remote control switch if an underage consumer approaches. Additionally, each ITVM prominently displays a message reminding players that they must be 18 years of age or older to play.

Overall, ITVMs are expected to increase Lottery ticket sales and contributions to education, while adding customer convenience since players no longer have to wait in line at a cashier to purchase their favorite Lottery Scratch-Off games. To find the nearest retailer with an ITVM in their area, players may visit the Florida Lottery Web site at www.flalottery.com and enter their zip code or city in the Where to Play section of the Web site.

Florida voters, by a two-to-one margin, approved a constitutional amendment in 1986 authorizing the state to operate a lottery for the purpose of generating significant additional moneys for education. Today, Floridians continue to show their support by purchasing nearly $4 billion in Lottery products per year, resulting in contributions of more than $20 billion to the EETF since 1988.
