Edward Warmington

Edward “Bud” Warmington, 89, died after a long illness. Warmington moved to Lehigh Acres in 1989 from Bridgewater, Mass. He was a WWII vet and served as a radio operator while stationed on the USS Hamilton in the South Pacific. His family said he was was responsible for delivering the first radio message to the President that the Japanese had surrendered. He worked for John Hancock Insurance for 38 years, while also serving on the Brockton Massachusetts Police Department and volunteering as the auxiliary police chief.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Phyllis, and three children, Richard (Joyce) Warmington of W. Bridgewater, Mass., Susan (Peter) Donnelly of Lehigh Acres, Craig (Mary) Warmington of E. Bridgewater, Mass., eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19 at the Lee Memorial Park on SR 82, Fort Myers, followed by a burial service on Sunday at 10 a.m.
