LRMC offers Lap Band bariatric surgery

By Staff | Dec 22, 2009

Lehigh Regional Medical Center is now offering LAP-BAND Bariatric surgery to patients in the whole Fort Myers and Lehigh Acres area.

The LAP-BAND Adjustable Gastric Banding System is an adjustable gastric band for use in weight reduction approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

In November, Dr. Martin Barrios and Dr. Lee Grossbard, performed LRMC’s first four Lap Band procedures, with excellent outcomes, according to LRMC officials.

Barrios is an advanced minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeon with an extensive experience in Bariatric/Lap band Surgery and Single Port Surgery. Grossbard is a former USF professor, national LAP-BAND surgical educator and one the first surgical pioneers for the Lap Band in Florida. Together, Barrios and Grossbard have a collective Lap Band experience in excess of 4000 cases and are currently the only Fort Myers/Lehigh Acres area LAP-BAND surgeons endorsed by the Lap band manufacturer with primary offices in Fort Myers/Lehigh Acres area.

“Through this procedure, which is considered safer, less invasive and longer lasting than the gastric bypass and gastric sleeve, we are able to dramatically increase the quality of life for these patients and help them potentially cure life threatening complications associated with obesity, such as diabetes and sleep apnea.” Barrios said.

“We are very pleased to bring new state-of-the-art technology and top quality surgeons to patients in need of Bariatric surgery in the Fort Myers area,” said Lehigh Regional Medical Center CEO, Jos F. Morillo.
