ICSA U16 girls post two shutouts
The Island Coast Soccer Alliance U16 girls’ soccer team is rolling through their four-team bracket with two shutout victories in the Orange Classic Girls’ International Soccer Tournament in the Weston-Fort Lauderdale area.
ICSA, which lists five current players from the undefeated Ida Baker girls’ team and several from other Cape schools on its roster, opened Sunday evening with a 3-0 win over Miami Premier in the Showcase III division. Haley Emerson, Paige Law and Baker’s Payton Van Horn scored the goals.
Kaylee Krohn and Van Horn got the goals in Monday’s 2-0 win over Cutler Ridge SC Fury. Cape High goalkeeper Amanda Kopale made five saves.
“Amanda is a tremendous goalkeeper,” said ICSA coach Mark Bost. “I may be biased, but she is very talented and I don’t think there is a better keeper in the state.”
ICSA’s next game is 8 a.m. Tuesday against Weston FC Nike.
“Tomorrow will be a challenge because it is a bit early,” Bost said. “It’s our third game, so being stiff and sore starts to set in. We have played extremely well from start to finish. I have coached these girls for a couple of years now and they are a very talented team.”
The U15 ICSA team opened Sunday with a 1-1 tie with the Eastern FC Wildcats (Conn.) and dropped a 4-2 decision Monday to the St. Leonard Lions (Canada), both early starts.
Baker freshman Monique Elliott scored the lone goal for ICSA in the first game while Jessica Bergau and Baker freshman Alexsys Vargas got Monday’s goals.
The U15s coached by Andrew Macdiarmid were 4-0 as U14s in last year’s Orange Classic.
“These were two very good teams,” said Macdiarmid. “We played well, but the competition is better this year.”
They have another early start at 9 a.m. Tuesday against Space Coast United.
