Single voting districts to be on ballot

By Staff | Jan 5, 2010

To The Editor:

Last month, the Lee County Commission voted 3-2 in favor of placing five single voting districts option on the 2010 ballot.

Some hurdles remain as Commissioner Tammy Hall resisted this decision. Ultimately, the Commission must instruct the county’s legal department to write the language and place this amendment on the ballot for the voters to decide if they want to elect the commissioner from their district.

Another public meeting may be necessary to complete this process.

We should express our thanks to Commissioners Keith Bigelow, Bob Janes and Frank Mann for their support of the people’s right to choose how they will elect their local representatives.
