Officials of Lehigh Regional Medical Center in Lehigh Acres today said they have started efforts to collect supplies to get to the victims of the earthquake that hit the island nation of Haiti late Tuesday.

Dr. Stephen Schroering, an orthopedic surgeon at the facility, is working with World Harvest Missions, an organization dedicated to caring for the people in need in Haiti, according to a press release released to the media today.

Lehigh Regional Medical Center is now teaming up with Schroering to make sure that food and medical supplies are sent to these people that need the most help. For this, the hospital is now and through the all of next week, accepting donations of non-perishable items such as dry and canned foods; over the counter drugs; toiletries and other personal care items such as soap, toothpaste and diapers, among others. Tax-deductible donations can also be made to “World Harvest Missions.”
