Lawrence W. Monks

Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 19, at 10 a.m. at Lee Memorial Park Funeral Home, 12777 State Rd 82 for Lawrence W. Monks, 95, of Lehigh Acres, who died Tuesday January 12, 2010. Formerly of Butler, Pa., he had lived here since 1974, retiring from Pennsylvania after 30 years as a state store manager. Monks served as president of Sabal Palm Gardens condominium association and was an usher for many years at Christ United Methodist Church in Lehigh Acres.

An avid follower of Fort Myers High since the 1980s when his son Bill was an assistant coach, Monks enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed reading, taking long walks, and working in his yard.

He is survived by his son, William J. Monks of Lynn Haven, Fla., daughter, Sarah Ashton of Rochester, Minn., his grandson, Charlie (Missy), granddaughter, Beckie, and one great granddaughter, Preslie. Monks was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther in 1965 and his second wife, Margaret in 2005.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
