You can make a difference in Lehigh Acres

By Staff | Feb 2, 2010

Families bear the primary responsibility for teaching children so many things early in life – including the importance of giving to others. That’s why, it is important to recognize the everyday occasions to educate family members about community service. Together, families can commit to volunteering and donate their family time to shaping and improving their community.

Volunteering with community service organizations like the Kiwanis Club of Lehigh Acres helps families build a greater understanding of the importance of giving back and the difference that one person can make in the lives of others. By fostering a greater understanding of the social issues and challenges faced by others, voluntary work helps connect families to their community in a meaningful and fulfilling way.

In recognition of the significant impact volunteer service has on communities, the Kiwanis Club of Lehigh Acres is holding its annual “Kiwanis One Day,” project a global day of community service, on April 10. More than 600,000 Kiwanis volunteers across the globe have dedicated this day of service in their local communities – and the result will donate more than one million volunteer hours in a single day.

Here in Lehigh Acres the Kiwanis have all ready kicked off its fund raising efforts to raise the necessary funds that will be used to provide the largest hunger relief effort ever staged in Lehigh Acres.

The Lehigh Acres Kiwanis has partnered with Kids Against Hunger by providing the ingredients to package in a single day “Kiwanis One Day” nearly 65,000 meals.

By next week you will be seeing signage at our local retail and banking partner locations so please help us reach our fundraising goal of providing 60,000 meals to those people in Haiti who suffered the effects of the devastating earthquakes and 4,800 meals to our Lehigh residents in need.

The Kiwanis Club of Lehigh Acres will have many different types of fundraisers over the next six weeks so pleasecome to our website and volunteer and pre-register to help out Haiti and the residents of this community of Lehigh Acres.

Also partnering with the Lehigh Acres Kiwanis are the Hands On Network and the Walt Disney Theme Parks. This unique partnership provides all volunteers that pre-register and participate (8 hours or more) will receive a voucher for a one-day one park ticket though the Disney Park’s “Give a Day Get a Disney Day” program. Program details are on the Lehigh Acres Kiwanis website at: www.lehighacreskiwanis.info.

The impact of such a global effort is remarkable and equates to nearly $17 million in volunteer work, demonstrating the fact that thousands of lives are enriched by Kiwanis members and their families working together to make their communities a better place.

Community service organizations and clubs like Kiwanis Club of Lehigh Acres help build relationships within communities and bring long-lasting and tangible benefits to members.

There are so many ways for individuals and families to become involved and be a part of improving their community, including sports and recreational organizations, educational, arts and cultural, and/or social service organizations.

It’s never been easier to get on board and join others in revitalizing the Lehigh Acres neighborhood, developing new solutions to community challenges and making the most of the area in which we live.
