A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 15, 2009 at Lee Memorial Park Funeral Home at 12777 SR82, Fort Myers, for Lucille Jones, 96, of Lehigh Acres, who died Feb. 10, 2010.

Ken Murdock, former leader of the Unity Church of Fort Myers is coming from California to officiate in the ceremony. He will be joined by Jim Rosemark of the local Unity Church

Jones moved to Lehigh Acres from Kansas City, Mo., in 1974. She retired from working for Sears after 25 years of service.

In Lehigh, she also worked as a license real estate agent.

She was a member of the AA Rail Road Missouri Club in Florida and president of the Missouri Club in Florida, and honorary member of Eastern Star.

Her volunteering activities included Meals on Wheels for 10 years, being a greeter at Gorovoy Eye Center in Fort Myers for more than 10 years and a volunteer at the Lehigh Acres Medical Office Building next to Lehigh Regional Medical Center.

She was very active in the Unity Church of Fort Myers and was a licensed as a teacher in the church.

She was a model at Maas Brothers at the age of 72 and an actress and producer at the Lehigh Players and Theatre several years ago.

She entertained for more than 10 years at the Lehigh Spring Festival and was the 1988 Senior Queen of Lehigh Acres, participating in numerous parades in Lehigh and LaBelle.

She was an accomplished singer and sang in the Lehigh Community Chorus.

She remained active in her retirement and attended swimming classes, ballroom and square dance classes and entertained at senior citizen birthday parties.

In 2009, she was honored as the grand marshal of the Lehigh Acres Spring Festival Parade.

Many people said she was one of the founding families of Lehigh and a matriarch of Lehigh.

Cremation has occurred and her ashes will be inturned at Lee Memorial Park.
