Prep Report: Mariner, NFM split in tennis

Mariner split a coed tennis match Friday with North Fort Myers with the Triton girls scoring a 4-3 victory as the result hanging in the balance with the very last match on the court.

The Red Knight boys earned their first win of the season by dominating the Tritons 6-1.

Mariner’s girls claimed three singles matches and the No. 2 doubles to seal the victory.

Kateryna Gorbanovska, Tristan Miller and Sydney Bell each won in singles with Bell and Brittney Webb-Martin picking up the doubles title.

On the boys’ side, Mariner’s Stefano DiBlasio posted the sole singles victory for the Tritons (0-2), who who are at Island Coast while the girls host Island Coast Monday. North visits Fort Myers Monday.

Softball

Cape Coral 5, Lemon Bay 3: Tara Higgins sprayed three base hits and Amanda Kopale belted a triple as Cape Coral topped Lemon Bay Friday.

Brenna Harkins picked up her third win on the mound, striking out three.

The Seahawks (4-0) host South Fort Myers Tuesday.

North Fort Myers 10, Estero 0: Jasmine Santiago belted a two-run home run in the second inning to help propel North Fort Myers to victory over Estero.

Michaela Schlotter, Jackie Owen and Katrissa Rowell each contributed two hits. Owen limited the Wildcats to four hits while striking out 15, including a rare four in the third inning.

The Red Knights (3-0) play at Charlotte Monday.

Riverdale 3, Mariner 1: Riverdale opened with three five hits in the first inning, three of them for extra bases, to score all its runs in a victory at Mariner.

Tritons pitcher Nikki Roderiques only gave up one more hit the rest of the way and struck out 11. She also scored the Tritons’ only run of the game, also in the first inning.

Mariner (2-1) plays at Fort Myers Tuesday.

Baseball

Ida Baker 8, South Fort Myers 3: Robert Johnson led off the game with a home run to set the stage for Ida Baker’s victory at South Fort Myers Friday.

Justin Pinto (3-for-4) and Alan Spangler (2-for-4) contributed to the Bulldogs’ 10-hit attack. Freshman Sean Brady pitched five innings and struck out five to earn his first victory.

Baker (2-0, 1-0 district) hosts Cypress Lake Tuesday.

Boys Basketball

Lee County Home School 48 Gunnery Road Christian 23: Lee County Home School (7-4 overall, 7-0 conference) led from the beginning after a basket off the opening tip and cruised to a victory Friday.

The Ambassadors ran out to a 13-0 lead after one quarter. Eight players got into the scoring column, led by Jake Higham with 12 and Caleb Blikstad with 9. Zachary Blikstad had six steals to lead the defense.

The Ambassadors next play at Gospel Baptist in Bonita Springs Monday.
