March programs at East County Regional Library

March roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

ADULTS

Chess Anyone?

4 p.m. Mondays, March 8, 15, 22, 29

Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Everyone is welcome. Bring a personal chess set, if preferred. Sponsored by the Friends of the East County Regional Library.

English Caf

10 a.m. Fridays, March 5, 12, 19, 26

Practice your English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers.

Sonny & Perley Sing Hits from the International Cabaret

6:30 p.m. Monday, March 8

Perennial favorites Sonny & Perley return to perform hits from the International Cabaret. Join us for a most enjoyable musical evening.

But Babies Can’t Read: Early Literacy for Infants and Toddlers

Presented by Community Coordinated Care for Children Inc.

10 a.m. Saturday, March 27

Community Coordinated Care for Children Inc. will host this literacy-focused Parent Roundtable Discussion. A trainer will facilitate the 45-minute program, which will include a presentation and discussion. Handouts with parenting techniques, skills or strategies will be available.

FAMILY

Baby-Parent Rhyme Time

10 a.m. Saturday, March 6

Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants.

Family Storytime

6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 30

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes.

Toddler Storytime

10 a.m. Wednesday, March 31

Children 2 years old and their caregivers participate in song, fingerplays and short stories. The success of this age group depends on adult participation and encouragement. Toddler storytime lasts approximately 30 minutes.

KIDS

Kids Read Down Fines

2 – 3 p.m. Saturday, March 27

Do you have library fines? Take care of them by reading! Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading during the allotted time in the designated area of the library. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only.

Preschool Storytime

10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 31

Preschoolers (ages 3 to 5) attend this storytime independently while parents or caregivers wait nearby in the library building. This storytime includes activities that require more participation and a longer attention span. Each preschool storytime lasts about 30 minutes.

TEENS

East County Anime Club

4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2

Join a group of teens with an interest in Anime, Manga and other aspects of Japanese culture. For grades 6 12. Snacks provided by the Friends of the East County Regional Library. Registration is required.

Celebrate Teen Tech Week and Leave with an iTunes Uploadable CD of Your Music!

4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9

Musicians, vocalists, rappers, and beat boxers celebrate the American Library Association’s Teen Tech Week and participate in the first ever East County Regional Library open mic recorded session. Immediately upon completion, receive an iTunes uploadable CD recording of your very own live musical performance. Only twenty spots are available. Biographical information on musicians and books on the subjects of history, intellectual property, copyright, modern and contemporary styles of music will be available for check out after the program. For grades 6-12. Sponsored by the Friends of the East County Regional Library. Registration required.

2 3 p.m. Saturday, March 27
