The Cape Coral High boys’ tennis team took one on the chin from the Fort Myers Green Wave Tuesday afternoon, but did not go down without a fight.

“They brought their best players,” said Seahawks coach Dave Fortner. “Usually they bring some JV players and roll through us 6-0, 6-0, but out of respect, I guess, they brought their best and we took a few games from them.”

Despite the stronger effort against a stronger foe, the Seahawks suffered their first defeat of the season 7-0.

One match, the No. 5 singles match between Cape’s Alex Ragonese and Mike Green, was still going on when a rainshower arrived to halt play. They were three games into the second set with Green awarded a 6-0, 3-0 win to complete the sweep.

Baker (2-3) plays Friday at North Fort Myers.
