“The children really loved it,” said Sue Eby, a third grade teacher at Lehigh Elementary School off of Richmond Ave. “We were celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America and it was an all-day event and we had a lot of people to come into our school and read to the children.

In addition to reading a book, volunteers who came to read also followed up with an activity with the students. Some of those who read included Lee County Mike Scott and Elinor Scricca, a member of the Lee County School Board representing the East Zone.

Many of those who came are referred to as “business partners” in the community who turn out to help the school in special activities, Eby said.

She said it was a successful day at the school with hundreds of kids being read to and that the committee headed by teacher Donna McFee and Sam Palkovic should get the credit.

Other committee members included Kathy Hirt, Jared Wallace, Cheri Leiderman, Hannah Morrison, Anita McCullers, Catherine Simons, Diane Elswick and Mary Jo Howard.
