Prep Report: Seahawks rout Red Knights
The Cape Coral Seahawks have been banging the ball around fairly well in recent games, but it has been runs that were harder to come by.
That was not the case Wednesday night when the Seahawks collected nine hits, spread among four players, in a 13-1 rout of the North Fort Myers Red Knights. The win is just the second of the season for the Seahawks (2-8), who play again at Cypress Lake Friday night.
Koji Spangler (3-for-4) led the hit parade with a pair of doubles while Brandon Marshall contributed three hits and Brett Hobaugh two hits. Cain Spangler accounted for the ninth hit in the lineup, a double.
Cain Spangler also earned the decision on the mound, tossing five innings, scattering seven hits while issuing one walk and striking out five.
The Seahawks broke the game open with four runs in the fourth inning and tacked on six more in the fifth to provide the double-digit cushion.

North Fort Myers 3, Cape Coral 1: Katrissa Rowell broke up a pitcher’s duel with an RBI triple in the sixth inning, then picked a runner off third base to help quell a bases-loaded jam as North Fort Myers prevailed over Cape Coral Wednesday night.
The first run of the game crossed the plate on a fielding error, followed by Rowell’s triple that put the Red Knights ahead 2-0.
The Seahawks went to work in their half of the sixth. Cape loaded the bases and Brenna Harkins, who doubled, scored the lone run on a ground ball to short. The throw home was low and too late to get Harkins, re-loading the bases with no one out.
A potential wild pitch was blocked by Rowell, who fired to third base to record the first out. Red Knights pitcher Jackie Owen (10-1) struck out the next two hitters to end the threat. She finished with 11 strikeouts overall.
The Red Knights (10-1) play at South Fort Myers and Cape visits Cypress Lake on Friday.
