Festival gets under way this weekend
The Lehigh Spring Festival gets into high gear starting this weekend. A brief ceremony was held Friday night to officially begin the Festival and there was entertainment for those attending. The big event tonight at the Festival at Veterans Park is a Bee Gees tribute concert by a group called Stayin’ Alive from Tampa.
The concert if free. There is a nominal parking fee to get into the park and the proceeds are shared by the Lehigh Acres Soccer League and the Spring Festival.
The Festival starts today, Saturday, at noon with a pet show which is held at the pavilion at the back of the park on the lake. Bring your pets in at noon to sign up. Judges will be on hand and ribbons will be passed out in different categories.
Later at 5 p.m., Roy T. will perform on the giant outside stage with his impersonation of Roy Orbinson. The Midway is open from noon to 11 p.m. with lots of rides and lots of food by the many vendors. There are also local vendors closer to the main outside stage.
Other events are set for Saturday.
All of Sunday is devoted to contests and pageants, including the famous bubble-blowing contest which has been a Festival tradition for three decades. Whoever blows the biggest bubble gets a big prize. There are baby contests and pageants for the Miss Lehigh Spring Festival. Also the Spring Festival Idol Contest continiues Sunday night and throughout the week for both juniors and adults. It’s all free and on the big outside stage.
And of course, the Midway is open every day and night.
