Area students honored in ‘Do the right Thing’ program
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office recognized 20 students March 18 in its monthly Do The Right Thing recognition program held at the Board of Education building in downtown Fort Myers. John McGraw was master of ceremonies as each child came forward to get a trophy and for McGraw to tell the audience of what the child had done to be honored.
Of the 20 students, the following are from this area:
Dylan Stewart of Alva, is a third grade student at Bayshore Elementary School. He was honored for his humanitarian efforts in helping his fellow students, He brings in his own personal books to share with others in his class.
Jennifer Baptiste of Lehigh Acres is an eighth grade student at Varsity Lakes Middle School in Lehigh.
Baptiste was honored for donating $600 from her college fund to help in the haitian earthquake relief effort.
The following two students were honored together:
Devyn Duncan of Alva and Carissa Smith of Alva, both sixth grade students at Ala Middle School, were honored because they went to door to door to collect money for earthquake victims in Haiti. The money was donated to the American Red Cross.,
Kaleigh Woodward of Lehigh Acres is an 11th grade student at East Lee County High School. She was honored because she reported a safety issue to the school’s resource officer.
Gaethan Petit-Homme of Lehigh Acres is a 12th grade student at Lee Alternative Charter High School. He was honored after coming to the U.S., from Haiti because he had the inspiration to learn American culture and English. He passed all educational requirements and also passed the FCAT Test.
