Clergy to carry cross on Good Friday to park

Pastor David Soden
The 12 churches whose ministers and congregations belong to the Evangelical Ministerial Alliance have announced the second annual Cross Walk on Good Friday, April 2. This year’s theme is “Carry His Cross.”
The clergymen who are heading the project are
Pastor David Soden and Pastor Michael Porzio with the help of Rev. Carlos Otero.
Members of the EMA, church members and the public are invited to meet on the sidewalk of the Lehigh Acres Walmart on Lee Blvd. at 5 p.m. with services at Veterans Park at 6:30 p.m.
Last year was the first Cross Walk and some 300 people took part in the event. Many helped to carry the cross, representing Christ’s forced carrying of the cross before his crucifixion.

Soden said around 60 people actually helped to carry the cross last year to Veterans Park on Homestead Rd. However, dozens of people joined in the march, some stopping their cars and parking them and joining the walkers. They will walk up Lee Blvd. and turn into Homestead Rd. as they head to Veterans Park.
Soden said it took about 90 minutes for the walk to the back pavilion on the lake where services were held.
Soden also said there are about 1,000 members represented by the 12 churches which belong to the EMA.
The cross will be taken to the same pavilion and erected where services will be held. Those coming to the service should bring their lawn chairs for seating, Soden said.
The main message will be delivered by the Rev. Larry Gutridge of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. There will be worship music and devotion during the service.
A creative arts presentation will be performed by the dance team from Lehigh Acres Christian Church.
