Two house fires reported in Lehigh Thursday
Two house fires were reported in Lehigh on Thursday, March 25, according to Lehigh Fire Marshal Kenneth Bennett. The first was an unattended cooking fire at a home in the 3000 block of Barson St., which was reported at 12:30 p.m.
A family of four resided in the home. At the time of the fire, the mother was outside in yard. When the father arrived home, he extinguished the fire with a garden hose, Bennett said. The fire was out upon arrival of fire units. There were no injuries Bennett said the fire remains under investigation by the Fire District and State Fire Marshal’s Office. The structure received around $20,000 in damages.
The second structural fire was the result of unattended cooking, Bennett said. It was located in the 4500 block of 22nd St. SW in Lehigh at 5:08 p.m. with approximate damages of $14,000.
Upon arrival of fire units, the occupant advised that the fire had been extinguished 30 minutes earlier by a neighbor with a blanket and water from the sink. Bennett said the occupant was preparing to cook chicken wings at the time of the fire, Bennett said. There were no injuries. Bennett said the fire is under investigation by the Fire District and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
