Veterans Park water fun ‘sprinklers’ closed on Good Friday
Lee County pools, athletic fields, parks, beaches and the City of Palms Park stadium will be open Friday,
April 2, despite a countywide furlough day implemented as a cost-saving measure.
Also open and operating will be the Lakes Regional Park water feature.
The furlough will cause closings of community centers, recreation centers, Club Rec programs for children and the Lehigh Acres’ Veterans Park water feature, near the pavilion at the back of the park.
Hammond Stadium will not be open because the
Minnesota Twins will have completed spring training. Summer camp registration will be online only that day.
“We understand families and tourists will be out looking for things to do on Good Friday, and except for our buildings being closed, we’re still offering recreational and outdoors options,” said Dave Harner,
deputy director of Lee County Parks & Recreation.
“Beach-goers, picnickers, youth leagues using athletic fields and Red Sox fans will not be affected,” he said.
Swimmers and aqua aerobics class attendees also will be unaffected on the furlough day. However, the county’s four year-round pool sites will be closed Saturday, April 3.
The Lee County Board of County Commissioners approved April 2 as a furlough day to ease budgetary strain. The date coincides with an
already planned court holiday and Good Friday. Another planned furlough date is scheduled for Sept. 9, which coincides with a court closing and Rosh Hashanah.
