FGCU women place fourth at Miami golf tourney

The FGCU women’s golf team finished in fourth place Tuesday afternoon in the 10-team ‘Canes’ and Cardinal Classic golf tournament in Miami Lakes.

Freshman Briana Carlson placed fourth overall with a three-round total of 226 (79-74-73), while two other Eagles placed the top 20.

The Eagles were third with a two-round 618 (313-305) heading into the final round. Their fivesome carded a 309 on the final day for a total score of 927 (313-305-309), good for sole possession of fourth place. The Eagles finished ahead of Cincinnati (929), tournament host Miami (935), Jacksonville (943), Penn State (944), Troy (947), and Texas-Pan American (974). Maryland won team title with a three-round 908 (302-307-299).

The three FGCU players in the top 20 are Carlson, tied for fourth with Penn State’s Gia Fanelli, junior Lina Elmsater tied for 12th with 231 (78-76-77) and senior Amber Pedersen at 233 (76-77-80), 19th overall.

Akron’s Kristen Hill captured the individual championship with a 215 (73-70-72).

The Eagles now prepare for the A-Sun Championships to be played at the Venetian Bay Golf Club in New Smyrna Beach April 11-14.
