Deputy Dale Conn

On Friday, April 9, members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office will join family, friends and citizens in honoring fallen Deputy Dale Conn. The 61-year-old veteran law enforcement officer had been hospitalized since Monday, March 26 when he suffered a major medical problem while faithfully carrying out his duties serving civil process. He died a week later, Monday, April 5, 2010.

Funeral arrangements have been finalized. A public viewing will be held Friday afternoon at McGregor Baptist Church, 3750 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, beginning at 1 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. A motorcade will escort Conn to his final resting place at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens where a full-honors service will take place including a 21-gun salute; the playing of Taps; and, a helicopter flyover.

Conn served with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for a total of 12 years. Most recently, he was assigned to the Civil Division.

Over the past four decades, he also worked with the Florida Highway Patrol, Fort Myers Police Department and Fort Myers Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, four children and five grandchildren. The family asks, in lieu of flowers, that memorial gifts be sent to the Blue Line Fund in care of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, 14750 Six-Mile Cypress Parkway, Fort Myers, FL 33912.

Motorists can expect delays Friday afternoon between 4 and 5 p.m. as the funeral procession travels west on Colonial Blvd. from the church to the cemetery.
