Man found dead in Lehigh canal is identified

Lee County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a scene just off Beth Stacey Blvd. in Lehigh Acres early during the morning of April 6 after a call was made that a body had been seen in a canal.
Investigators on the scene said the man was dead and they described him only as an Hispanic male.
Capt. Ed Tamayo of the Bravo District in Lehigh said the body was discovered floating face down. Lehigh Acres Fire District arrived and removed the body from the canal. The Major Crimes Division of the LCSO responded to assume the investigation, he said.
The victim was identified by family members as being Jesus Jose Gomez, with a date of birith of 4/02/87. The investigation is ongoing.
