Cape Coral High played it way into contention for the boys’ District 3A-11 tennis championship Monday at Mariner, advancing four players to the singles finals.

Doubles play starts Tuesday as well as the singles finals.

Fort Myers, favored to win the team title, stands in the Seahawks’ way in all four singles matches.

Cape’s Joel Silverberg won two matches Monday to reach the No. 1 final, including his first career victory over Jesus Lugones of North Fort Myers 6-4, 7-6.

Also advancing for the Seahawks are Mitch Irvin (No. 3), Shane Pacheco (No. 4) and Arthemon Lis (No. 5). Silverberg and Gerardo Carrizo are paired up for No. 1 doubles with Irvin and Alex Ragonese at No. 2.

Mariner’s Steven Allen played his way into the No. 2 singles final. Allen also teams with Danville Bent as the Tritons’ No. 1 doubles duo.

On the girls’ side, Riverdale and Fort Myers will fight it out Tuesday for the team title.

Baker’s Kjerstine Payne and Sarah Leny continue play Tuesday in doubles only.

LCAC: North Fort Myers goes up against Riverdale Tuesday night for the conference championship a week before the top two seeds go after the District 4A-11 championship.

Riverdale is the No. 1 seed and North is No. 2 for next week’s district tournament.

Other conference crossover games Tuesday night send Mariner to Estero for third place, Ida Baker is at South Fort Myers for fifth place and Cape Coral is at Lehigh for seventh place.
