Man with gun tells LCEC employees to reconnect power; arrest is made

By Staff | Apr 14, 2010

A North Fort Myers man is under arrest after threatening to kill two Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC) employees who were at his house to perform a disconnect, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office today.

On April 14 at approximately 9 a.m., the LCEC employees had just performed the disconnect at 8114 Grady Drive in North Fort Myers when Gerald Licquia, 40, confronted them with a gun, according to a Sheriff’s report.

According to the investigation, Licquia pointed the gun at the employees and demanded they turn the power back on or he would shoot them.

The employees, in fear for their safety, reconnected the power. After leaving the scene, they reported the incident to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and a detective with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to the location.

While conducting a preliminary investigation, Licquia was asked if he had a gun or weapon on his property. Licquia stated “it’s a pellet gun and it’s on the counter.” The detective immediately secured what turned out to be a .177 caliber firearm replica air gun. As the detective conducted interviews at the scene, Licquia said that he “knows where the guys live” and that he would “get them,” said Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Tony Schall.

Following the investigation, Licquia was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault without intent to kill. The complainants were advised to seek an injunction for protection against Licquia.
