Prep Report: Gators collect 4-1 win

Seacrest Country Day opened the door in the third inning and the Island Coast Gators bolted through to collect a 4-1 victory Wednesday night.

Nelson Candelaria got the Gators on the board with an RBI double in the second inning, knotting the score at 1-1.

In the third, Seacrest made defensive errors on the first three batters and the Gators immediately capitalized. Cole Ondrejka and Chase Vogelbach delivered RBI singles to gain the three-run advantage. The Gators made the most of their five base hits

Ryan Manka (2-1) pitched into the fifth inning to earn the win and Kyle Harding pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings to pick up his second save. The pair combined to scatter eight hits.

The Gators (14-8) travel to Charlotte Monday night.

Fort Myers 5, Cape Coral 1: Fort Myers broke open a tight game with three runs in the seventh inning to clip Cape Coral .

The Seahawks scored an unearned run in the fourth inning to tie the game 1-1. Brad Kopale walked and Koji Spangler sacrificed him to second. After Cain Spangler (2-for-3) singled to put runners on the corners, a wild pickoff throw allowed Kopale to trot home with the lone run.

Ty Ferrante led off the seventh with a triple and scored on a single. Runs scored on doubles by Jimmy Correnti and Brendon Sanger.

The Seahawks (5-16) play at South Fort Myers Thursday night.

North Fort Myers 4, Cape Coral 0: North Fort Myers plated four runs in the fourth inning and Jackie Owen allowed three hits and struck out 10 to record her 10th shutout win.

With one out and the bases loaded, the Red Knights got back-to-back RBI singles from Alex Smith and Katrissa Rowell. The final runs scored on Jasmine Santiago’s walk and Owen’s sacrifice fly.

The Red Knights (17-4) visit Plantation American Heritage at 7 p.m. Friday.
