Prep Report: Two unearned runs help Tritons win 3-2 in 11 innings
The Mariner Tritons prevailed in an 11-inning pitchers’ duel Thursday night in Punta Gorda thanks in part to an unearned run.
Tied 2-2 after three innings, neither team saw the plate again until the Tritons rallied in the top of the 11th for a 3-2 victory over the Charlotte Tarpons.
Sean Pasek singled to lead off the decisive inning and was sacrificed to second. Colt Masters then singled to center where the ball was bobbled allowing Pasek to continue around third base and score the game-winning run.
Stanley Padfield, who pitched six scoreless innings in relief for the Tritons, set down the Tarpons in order in the bottom of the 11th to seal the win. Padfield allowed just two hits and struck out seven.
Martin Evans (2-for-6), Daniel Alimonti (2-for-4, 1 RBI) and Pasek (2-for-4) accounted for most of the Tritons’ eight hits.
The Tritons (19-3) host Riverdale at 7 p.m. Friday in their final District 3A-11 game to determine the second and third seeds for the district tournament.

Ida Baker 7, Palmetto Ridge 6: Ida Baker saw a two-run lead erased in the bottom of the seventh inning, but made up for it in the eighth to edge Palmetto Ridge.
Justin Gubelman pitched seven innings for the Bulldogs, allowing three earned runs while striking out five, before giving way to Rob Serrano in the eighth. Serrano got the victory, his third, when Kevin Cavanagh doubled to drive in Gubelman with the winning run.
Mike Gulotta belted a solo home run, his second homer of the season, in the first inning. Gulotta was 3-for-3 with two RBI and scored three runs to lead the Bulldogs. Cavanagh finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.
The Bulldogs (11-12) play at Port Charlotte Monday.

South Fort Myers 10, Cape Coral 0: South Fort Myers erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning to beat Cape Coral, but the Wolfpack didn’t need the added runs with Hudson Boyd on the mound.
Boyd pitched a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 12 Cape batters. The Seahawks to get on base were courtesy of two South errors.
Brad Kopale was tagged with the loss, tossing 4 2/3 innings, allowing just four hits but walking six and striking out three.
The Seahawks (5-17) play at East Lee County Tuesday in an LCAC crossover game.

Softball
Naples 6, Ida Baker 0: Sami Fisher singled in the sixth inning to break up a no-hitter, but Ida Baker was handed a shutout defeat by Naples in the first round of the Longshore Tournament.
Naples pitcher Jackie Traina struck out 17 batters to earn the victory.
The Bulldogs (13-9) resume play in the Longshore at 10 a.m. Saturday against an opponent to be determined.
