By Staff | Apr 17, 2010

Deputies were dispatched to an armed occupied residential burglary in progress at 4600 block of 15th Street SW, in Lehigh today at around 10 a.m., April 15, according to Capt. Ed Tamayo, commander of the Brava Station of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

While responding to the scene Cpl. Melissa Smith, Deputy Scott Persing, Det. Chris Lalor, and Det. William Lucas saw two individuals walking south bound on Havilland Avenue, just south of 23rd Street SW that matched the suspects’ description.

Upon checking out with these two men, evidence determined they were in fact the suspects from the burglary, Tamayo said. They were accused of committing an armed burglary, having been armed with a machete that startled the homeowner, waking him up, Tamayo said.,

The two arrested were:

Edward Smith, 24, charged with one count of armed occupied burglary to a dwelling, and one count of possession of burglary tools.

Kerry Kendred, 19, one count of armed occupied burglary to a dwelling.
