Walkoff HR beats Miracle, 4-2
The Fort Myers Miracle carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning, but a two-out RBI single by Palm Beach’s Josh Garcia sent Friday’s game into extra innings.
In the 10th, Cardinals first-baseman Xavier Scruggs hit a two-out, two-run homer off of Miracle reliever Billy Bullock to give the Cardinals a 4-2 win.
It is the second straight defeat for the Miracle (2-6) after winning two in a row earlier this week in Charlotte.
With the game tied 1-1 in the top of the ninth, Miracle designated hitter Michael Harrington hit a go-ahead RBI-double to the fence in left that scored Chris Herrmann from first.
Bullock walked a batter with one out in the ninth, before allowing another base hit to put a runner in scoring position. Garcia picked up the clutch hit to tie the game 2-2. Matt Carpenter followed with a base hit to right, but Evan Bigley threw out Thomas Pham at the plate to extend the game into extra-innings.
Bullock, in his third appearance with the Miracle, was charged with the loss.
Garcia finished 5-for-5 on the night, including a first-inning solo home run that gave the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead. Fort Myers tied the game in the fourth on a fielder’s choice groundout by Ramon Santana.
The Miracle and Cardinals square off again Saturday night and Sunday before the Miracle return home to Hammond Stadium to open a three-game series with the Stone Crabs Monday night.
