Miracle notch first win over Marauders, 6-3
After being swept by the Bradenton Marauders in a four-game series to begin the season, the Fort Myers Miracle jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning Thursday night and never looked back in posting a 6-3 victory at Hammond Stadium.
The win is the second in a row and third in four games at home for the Miracle.
The Miracle jumped all over Bradenton starter Aaron Pribanic in the first inning, picking up three consecutive hits to start the night. Drew Thompson led off with an opposite-field single with Chris Herrmann following with an RBI-double down the third base line.
Evan Bigley then pulled an RBI double down the right-field line. Bigley and Herrmann both finished with two hits on the night. It is Bigley’s first mulit-hit effort of the season, and extends his hitting streak to seven games.
The Miracle added single runs in the second and third innings before adding two insurance runs in the seventh to pull off their biggest margin of victory this season.
After scoring just three or fewer runs through the first 10 games, the Miracle have scored six runs twice and four runs once in their last three.
Pribanic (0-1) lasted only four innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits to earn his first loss of the year.
Matt Williams (1-0) pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief of Miracle starter Brad Tippett to pick up his first win of the season. The two Australian right-handers combined to allow two runs on six hits while striking out seven. Tippett went four innings in his second start of the season.
The Miracle (5-8) head to Bradenton (9-4) Friday night to wrap up a quick home-and-home series with the Marauders.
Bruce Pugh (0-2, 9.80 ERA) will start for the Miracle against Nathan Adcock (1-1, 2.70).
The Miracle return home to host the Palm Beach Cardinals to open a three-game set. First pitch is 6:05 p.m. Saturday with a post-game concert featuring New Method at “Faith Night at the Ballpark.”
