An investigations is continuing concerning the deaths of two men in Lehigh Acres early Saturday morning. One of the men was fatally shot by a Lee County deputy when the man opened fire on deputies responding to an incident at 725 La Plata Ave.

Sheriff’s Spokesman John Sheehan said that shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, deputies were responding to a call at a private home on La Plata Ave. When deputies arrived at the house, Sheehan said they discovered a critically wounded man in the driveway of the home.

He said the man died as a result of his injuries shortly after deputies arrived.

The deceased have been identified as Alexander Alfonso, 45, and Arnold Alfonso, 40. Arnold Alfonso is the suspect who opened fire on deputies inside the home, Sheehan said.

Both men were brothers and lived at the 725 La Plata address. Sheehan said

circumstances surrounding the death of the man outside the home are still be investigated by detectives with the Major Crimes Unit.
