By Staff | Apr 30, 2010

Lee County Emergency Management is monitoring the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, and preparing in the event the spill reaches the shores of Lee County, according to a statement made today.

Currently, the eastern edge of the oil spill is approximately 300 miles to the north-northwest of Lee County.

“We want to be proactive, and ensure that we have the necessary resources ready to respond, as needed. Especially knowing the potential impact it could have on our local economy, environment, and even the health of our residents,” said J. Stakenburg, operations manager for Lee County Emergency Management.

Friday afternoon, Emergency Management hosted a planning meeting with federal, state and local partners regarding protection of the shoreline and potential oil clean-up.

Earlier today, Gov. Crist signed Executive Order 10-99 for the counties of Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Bay and Gulf.
