Florida Legislature is not doing so well

By Staff | May 4, 2010

To the Editor:

How many times can I hold our Florida legislators in contempt? Last week would need a new range of negative superlatives to even label the bills they passed.

Bill to suppress a woman’s right to decide how to choose what to do if she decides to have an abortion.

Bill to nullify method of choice stated in the Fair Elections Amendments (on the ballot, but not yet have the people spoken.)

Cutback on stem cells available for research.

Bill for legislature to set tuitions in our colleges and universities (Board of Regents have this intrusion into their responsibilities.) Jeb’s K-16 initiative failed to take over our universities.

Tried to renegotiate classroom size with a very bad teachers’ bill (SB6).

This is only one week’s work to impose, abuse upon abuse, heaped upon Florida citizens. Ignoring the will of the people seems to me to be what is going on in both the House and the Senate. Where is “of, by, and for” the people?
