Miracle top Jupiter, 4-2

By Staff | May 5, 2010

Behind an outstanding defensive effort and timely hitting, the Fort Myers Miracle pitching staff delivered another strong outing to beat the Jupiter Hammerheads 4-2 Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium.

Kyle Gibson, who was named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week after his complete-game shutout last week against Jupiter, allowed only two runs on six hits for his third victory of the year. The Miracle (11-14) have now won six of their last seven games. They go for their first series sweep Wednesday night at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle bullpen was stout in three innings of relief, setting down the final nine batters in order. The relievers did have some defensive help behind them to keep the two-run lead.

In the seventh with Matt Williams on in relief, Jeremy Synan scorched a deep fly ball to center that Brandon Roberts made an over-the-shoulder catch at the warning track.

In the ninth, with Michael Allen in to close it out, leadoff batter Ben Laster smoked a ball to left with Chris Herrmann making an diving catch to save an extra-base hit. Allen retired the next two batters in order to notch his first save of the year.

Michael Tarsi (1-2, 4.32 ERA) will take the mound for the series finale Wednesday.
