Late Miracle eruption topples Mets, 9-7
Trailing by five runs with two outs in the seventh inning, the Fort Myers Miracle erupted for two runs in the seventh and five in the eighth Thursday night to defeat the St. Lucie Mets 9-7 at Hammond Stadium.
Dan Rohlfing crushed a home run over the left field wall in the seventh to spark the Miracle. Ramon Santana followed with a double and Drew Thompson’s RBI single pulled the Miracle within three.
After a walk and a single put runners at the corners in the eighth, Deibinson Romero pushed across the first run of the inning with a single to cut the deficit at two. Nick Romero followed with a triple down the right field line to score two more, tying the game 7-7. Rohlfing (3-for-4) came through with the go-ahead base hit in the eighth to put the Miracle on top for the first time in the game.
Santana capped the inning with his second double of the night to push the Miracle lead to 9-7. Six consecutive batters reached base with one-out in the inning. They finished with 13 hits, eight of those coming in the last two innings.
Billy Bullock pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his sixth save of the year. Matt Williams, who pitched three scoreless innings in relief, earned his second victory.
The Miracle (12-15) have won seven of their last nine games, including three come-from-behind victories against the Mets (10-17). The Miracle take on ther Mets again Friday night.
