Miracle bats stall in 6-2 loss

By Staff | May 10, 2010

St. Lucie scored four early runs and the Fort Myers Miracle never recovered from that deficit Friday night in a 6-2 loss to the Mets at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle (12-16) could not find an offensive rhythm as they did Thursday rallying from a 7-2 deficit in the late innings.

Dan Osterbrock made his Miracle debut following a promotion from Low-A Beloit Thursday. Osterbrock got off to a rocky start as the Mets greeted him with a solo home run by former Mets’ first-round pick Reese Havens.

After two consecutive strikeouts by the left-hander in the second inning, the Mets took advantage of three hits and an error for three more runs.

Osterbrock (0-1) lasted six innings allowing five runs overall (two earned) on six hits while striking out six.

On the flip side, Scott Moviel (2-2) had a strong outing for the Mets to pick up his second win of the season.

The Miracle got their only runs in the third inning. With Brandon Roberts at second base and two outs, a wild throw allowed Roberts to score the first run. Evan Bigley followed with a two-out RBI single to pull the Miracle within two, but the Mets added single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to pull away.

The Miracle will send Bruce Pugh (2-3, 4.23) to the mound Saturday looking to pick up his third straight win of the season against the Mets.
