Woman killed in Lehigh is identified

By Staff | May 14, 2010

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman found dead Wednesday, May 12 at 3405 21st Street SW in Lehigh as Maria DeLourdes Bauza.

Police called the death a homicide Wednesday afternoon in a report to the media, but no other details were released.

They were sent to the home at around 9:26 a.m. after being called in reference to a death investigation. Homicide detectives began an investigation that continues today.

Investigators said a man on the scene, identified as Bauza’s husband, Zacarias Jaime Izquierdo, 68, was taken into custody as a primary suspect.

But due to a medical issue, investigators said he was then taken to an area hospital. Charges against him for any role in Bauza’s murder are pending, investigators said.

They also said an autopsy will be conducted to determine Bauza’s official cause of death. The incident remains under investigation, authorities said Thursday.
