Marauders outduel Miracle 1-0

By Staff | May 15, 2010

BRADENTON – Starting pitcher Bruce Pugh gave the Fort Myers Miracle a masterful performance, allowing only one hit and three base runners in seven shutout innings, but the Marauders scored one run off the Miracle bullpen in the eighth Friday night to win 1-0.

Loek Van Mil came in for relief and hit the first batter of the inning. A base hit put runners at the corners with one out. Greg Picart then grounded to third baseman Deibinson Romero who threw home offline as Eric Fryer scored from third.

After five shutout innings from Bradenton starter Brian Leach the Marauders’ bullpen allowed only one baserunner the rest of the way. Casey Erickson pitched two scoreless innings before Diego Moreno pitched a perfect eighth to earn the win. Noah Krol retired all three batters in the ninth to record his ninth save.

After a leadoff walk to Brock Holt in the first inning, Pugh set down the next 12 batters until a one-out error by Miracle shortstop Paul Kelly allowed a man to reach. With Jeremy Farrell standing at second after the throwing error, Pugh struck out the next two batters to keep a no-hitter intact. The Marauders broke up the no-hit bid with two outs in the sixth inning on a single by Holt.

Pugh finished giving up just one hit in seven shutout innings, recording 10 strikeouts for the no-decision.

The Miracle (15-19) return home to Hammond Stadium Saturday to start a nine-game homestand, beginning with one game against the Marauders (20-14).

Clearwater and Daytona then come to town for four games each starting Sunday.
