Aldine D. Poling Jr.
Aldine Dean Poling Jr., 86. died at his home in Lehigh Acres on May 12, 2010. Born November 3, 1923 in Philippi, W. Va., he grew up during the Great Depression and was a Navy veteran of World War II. After the war, he graduated West Virginia Wesleyan College and taught high school history and business subjects in southern Maryland public schools for 30 years.
He completed a master of education degree and most classwork for a doctorate in education at the University of Maryland during his teaching career.
In 1980 he moved to Lehigh Acres to enjoy retirement surrounded by its golf courses, warm weather and many good neighbors and friends.
He was a long-time member of St. Anselm Episcopal Church, American Legion Post 323, and Elks Lodge 2602 in Lehigh Acres and Masonic Lodge 142, AF&AM in Prince Frederick, Md.
Poling is survived by a son, Robert W. Poling of Prince Frederick, Md; one brother, Robert J. Poling of LaPlata, Md; one sister, Mary Poling, of Spartanburg, S.C.; four grandsons, Jon S. Poling, Charles Dean Brown, Michael E. Brown, and Brian R. Poling and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rosemary Blake Poling, his daughter, Ann Elizabeth Brown, and five brothers and four sisters.
Burial will be in the family cemetery in Bridgeport, W. Va., at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Lee Memorial Park, Fort Myers. Donations may be made in Poling’s memory to Hope Hospice, 25 Homestead Rd., Lehigh Acres, FL 33972.
