Eagles fall 13-2 in A-Sun Tourney
NASHVILLE – The FGCU baseball team lost to the North Florida Ospreys 13-2 Thursday in the second game of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship at Lipscomb’s Dugan Field.
The Eagles (38-19) had not lost to the Ospreys since March 1, 2008.
Junior Richie Erath took the hill for the Eagles. The right-hander pitched just three innings and allowed seven runs on eight hits to go with three strikeouts. Sophomore Jacob Barnes and freshman R.J. Brown pitched the final five innings in relief.
UNF (30-27), which came into the game having lost their last six in a row, jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning.
FGCU got one run back in the third when Joe Guarnaccia sent a pitch over the fence in left. The homer is Guarnaccia’s third of the season.
Erupting for five runs on four hits in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a solo homer and a three-run blast, the Ospreys pushed their lead to 7-1.
The Eagles are back in action at noon Friday against the loser between East Tennessee State and Mercer.
If the Eagles win, they then face the winner between North Florida and Jacksonville at 8 p.m. Friday.
