Tigers earn split with Miracle
LAKELAND – After the Fort Myers Miracle pitching staff allowed Lakeland just one run in the last two games, both Miracle wins, the Tigers broke out in the series finale Tuesday night pounding out 13 hits in a 9-1 rout.
The Tigers had just one hit in the first two innings before erupting for seven runs against Miracle starting pitcher Adrian Salcedo in the third.
Lakeland sent 12 batters to the plate in that inning, recording eight hits – four that went for extra bases. Salcedo was lifted after the Tigers went through their entire lineup, with reliever Blake Martin picking up the final two outs.
Salcedo (1-3), picked up his second consecutive loss of the season as he allowed seven earned runs on seven hits, walking one and also hitting a batter. It is the worst outing of the year for the 19-year-old prospect in his fifth start.
The Miracle led 1-0 as Estarlin De Los Santos drew a walk to lead off the night and Nick Romero dropped a bunt to move him to second. Chris Parmelee singled to left and De Los Santos scored.
The Tigers’ final two runs came on solo home runs off the Miracle bullpen.
After splitting the series, the Miracle (25-33) return to Hammond Stadium for a two-game series with the Bradenton Marauaders Wednesday before the three-day all-star break.
