The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit PILS (Pharmaceutical Investigative Law Enforcement Strategy) Section along, with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, conducted a county-wide round up as part of Operation Bad Image on Wednesday.

The two-month long investigation targeted offenders who presented fraudulent MRIs to area pain clinics in order to obtain opiate medication. Twenty-two of the 41 targeted offenders were arrested by Lee County Sheriff’s Office narcotics detectives, special agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit.

During the investigation, detectives learned the suspects obtained nearly 60,000 pharmaceutical drugs with a combined street value of more than $675,000.

The following individuals have been arrested and charged with uttering a forged instrument and multiple counts of obtaining a prescription by fraud.
